Description

Plain Language BIM guides you through the complexities of the BIM process. It is intended for both beginners and intermediate users. Whilst the legislation covered in the book was enacted in the United Kingdom, it is still a valid basis for a guideline to the BIM process on an international basis.

The vital essence of BIM is gathering data about the asset that is the subject of our BIM process. If we don't have good quality information, delivered in a manner we can understand and consume, that can be trusted and relied upon, then we cannot decide from the outset on whether we need to upgrade, augment, replace, decommission or leave our assets alone, regardless of whether they are railways, highways, power stations, tunnels, hospitals, schools or prisons.

The author, Iain Miskimmin, has spent the best part of two decades working in support of the infrastructure and construction industries. Helping to deliver the first BIM projects in the UK before the questionable acronym was set in stone. Since 2012 he has run the Crossrail/ Bentley Information Management Academy and the BIM Advancement Academy in London. This has allowed him to interact with over 4000 industry people from all over the globe to capture their thoughts and experience of BIM, including some of the biggest infrastructure projects in the world. He was worked closely with the UK BIM Task Group and leads the Infrastructure Asset Data Dictionary for the UK (IADD4UK) initiative.
